What a week for PAPA-191! So much growing, so much excitement! Every day seemed to go by faster and faster. Time flies when you’re having fun. No one expected that kind of team building. Starting off with fire fighting, you really need to learn how to work together. There is no “I” in team for PAPA-191. We will protect the shipmate behind us and support the shipmate in front of us. Coming into week 06 with our orders and our heads up high, the company was high on life. We got our report dates on Tuesday and some calls home. I can speak for the whole company when I say that was the best and hardest phone call ever! Yes, we are kicking butt and we have our eyes on the prize, but home is always on our mind! Just a few more weeks! After the eye watering phone calls, Wednesday…now that was an awesome day! Started with a little boring administrative time, but hey, not every second here can be peaches and cream! After lunch chow, we were told to make sure our uniforms and boots were on point. Great, we’re having an inspection? Inspections make everyone feel…fantastic! But not really. So we ironed and shined our hearts out. Then marched to the beach, like our Company Commanders have really lost their minds. So we filed out onto the sand in our pretty uniforms and got an awesome speech from Petty Officer Dupre! He told us about our new office, the sea. And how she is unforgiving and mean. But we can’t be afraid of her, we have to respect her. Then the famous words…”Find some real estate, PAPA!”. So we spread out in the sand and got a nice sandy work out. Face in the sand and sand in our pants. Just so much sand! After a good sweat, we turn around and see our colors. We ran to that blue and white PAPA flag like we were Olympic sprinters. Now we are PAPA-191 for real! So proud, we march with more pride. Chest out, shoulders back! Singing cadence louder than any company before! We thought that was a good enough reward for our hard work.

Thursday we got to fight each other, fight club style. So rule number one…we can’t talk about fight club. Yea, not so much! Bad joke? We got to train with pugil sticks. They are like oversized Qtips. The company paired off and put on their gear, then let out some stress on each other. We cheered on our shipmates and our CC’s cracked jokes. Everyone with a smile on their face! But the biggest smiles of them all came on Saturday! On base liberty. I’m sure many of you got a phone call from a PAPA recruit. We relaxed, ate junk food, joked and laughed like it was spring break! Too bad every day couldn’t be like that! But we are here for something. Not to chill and play games. We are training to be Coast Guardsmen! To save lives and serve this nation. That’s what we took the oath for! Back to work for PAPA-191. Hello Week 07.
