Romeo-193 Week 03 Summary

This was the pain and gain week for the company; the week where R-193 kept switching between “Romeo” and “Remedial”. We must have sweat so much that the Cape’s Bay increased by a foot in water level! We did so many insane sweat sessions through the week. We passed our full sea-bags and stacked them for a half a mile around the parade field! We ran tracks in our full uniforms, stopping to log every lap as our Coast Guard blues became black in color, puking included! We fire drilled so many times, some shipmates yell “fire, fire, fire” in their sleep. We held up a two pound book and read the definition of discipline. That last one may not sound so bad, but after locking your elbows for an hour and screaming so much you spit blood, you’d be surprised. Truly, what we gained from the week was stronger (or broken) shoulders. About we also gained knowledge. This was the week Romeo’s recruits started to see our company commanders as instructors rather than harbingers of fire sirens and our eventual heat destruction. We learned our Manual of Arms, moving our pieces up in down in formation. We learned Seamanship basics with knots and helm commands. We learned (and were extremely frightened by) what to do if we become POW’s. The company, in our intense study and constant beat downs, is starting to gel, but not without struggle. Puke and tears seem to be the norm these days, and we’re being broken down more and more. Only time will tell if Romeo-193 will jump the hurdles and come out stronger.
