Victor-197 Week 02 Blog

What a week it’s been for Victor Company. Week 02 has become if not the most, one of the most impactful times in our lives. Week 02 started with a rude awakening, incentive training! No longer would Victor Company be coddled like week 01! But, Victor recruits are already starting to see the results. But for every set of pushups, there’s time spent learning in and out of the classroom. Victor recruits have been hit with a fire hose of new information, but they’re taking it in stride. Week 02 has been incredible in other ways as well. Victor recruits started the week by earning their “pieces”, their weapons. Although they aren’t real, we treat them like they are. Receiving our pieces marked a significant moment for us, and feeling of true responsibility. Later in week 02, the company hit the pool, a moment of excitement as well as nervousness. While most of us had been dreaming at night of taking a dip in a cool, refreshing pool, we knew that this was still training. Everything is pretty much exhausting, like everything Victor does, the swim test was a big moment for us. The water will be our office so best get prepared now! But there’s been morale boosts throughout the week 02 as well, namely; hearing from home. The letters received this week have been more up-lifting than anyone could’ve predicted. Your letters have given us strength that some of us forgot we’d had. Also, Victor Company gained a new mentor, a Chief Petty Officer who spoke with us about our Coast Guard lives ahead. She enlightened us, as well as informed us. However, her own tales from her boot camp experiences really brought us relief and something to relate to. Most of all, week 02 has taught us Victor recruits what training is really about and that out Company Commanders mat not be our buddies, but they are our mentors as well, and if we stay on the straight and narrow they’ll make Coast Guardsmen of us yet! We don’t know what to expect in weeks ahead, but we know we’ve only just begun and don’t plan on stopping!
